Continuing Professional Development

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is defined by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (OTBA) as “how occupational therapists maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge, expertise and competence. CPD is an important component in the continued provision of safe and effective services”. The accumulation of 20 CPD hours including 5 hours of interactive learning by the 30th November each year is a mandatory requirement for all occupational therapists with general registration.

For the full definition of what CPD is and general FAQs specific to occupational therapists, visit the OTBA website for more information.

To ensure the continual development of occupational therapists in Australia, Occupational Therapy Australia is dedicated to providing informative, innovative and evidenced-based CPD opportunities for our members.

To promote lifelong learning, knowledge-sharing and skill development, Occupational Therapy Australia workshops, webinars and other events have been designed by OTs for OTs to help inform and refresh the knowledge and skills of those practising occupational therapy in Australia.

The OTA Online CPD Library

Occupational Therapy Australia believes in the continual development and education for all members and now provides a dedicated, centralised resource hub of webinars and online courses on practice and professional issues.

The Online CPD Library also allows access to recorded webinars that can be purchased and accessed after the live webinar has taken place. All members who complete courses via the Online CPD Library will be issued Certificates of Completion.

Please note: Links and resources for purchased webinars will be issued by the end of the following business day. If you purchase a webinar on Friday you may not receive it until Monday.

Occupational Therapy Australia aims to provide accessible and relevant professional education and resources that integrate valid research evidence to support clinical decision-making and professional engagement. OTA provides a variety of CPD sessions facilitated via webinars, workshops, eLearning and Digital Days.
