RECORDED WEBINAR SUMMARY

ASSESSING AND TREATING ARTHRITIS IN THE UPPER LIMB
This webinar will provide you with basic assessment and treatment techniques, in addition to a review of upper limb anatomy and how changes occur due to OA. This course will assist you to understand the various treatment options available to patients presenting with arthritic changes of the upper limb as well as give you an understanding of when to refer the patient on.

Suitable for OT Students, OT New Graduates, Early Career Occupational Therapists

Please note; this course is not suitable for experienced clinicians 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the completion of this course, therapists will;

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of upper limb anatomy
  • Complete an initial assessment with a patient presenting with problems associated with arthritis
  • Apply clinical reasoning to plan a treatment approach
  • Identify the purpose of splinting, activity modifications and exercises as a treatment approach

PRESENTER

 Jennifer Mathias

Jennifer has specialised in Hand and Upper Limb rehabilitation for over 25 years. She has cemented her knowledge by completing post graduate studies, participating in research projects, and being the co-author of medical journals. She now enjoys running a large private practice, lecturing and doing presentations to Surgeons, GP’s and graduating therapists. Jennifer is an Accredited Hand Therapist (as awarded by the AHTA).

 Kate Rayner

Kate developed a passion for treating hand injuries whilst on placement at university. Following completion of her degree, she began working in private practice in Townsville and has been working with Melbourne Hand Therapy since returning to Melbourne. Kate has supervised clinical students, both observational and practical, to develop their hand therapy skills. She believes in ongoing and lifelong learning and regularly participates in professional development to deliver evidence-based treatment. Kate is an Accredited Hand Therapist (as awarded by the AHTA).
